There are 3 types of burns:

1. First-Degree Burns (Affecting Top Layer of Skin)
2. Second-Degree Burns (Affecting Top 2 Layers of Skin)
3. Third-Degree Burns (Call 911 Immediately)

Stop the Burning Immediately and DO NOT apply butter, ointments or any oil-based substance on a burn which can cause infection. Here are the steps:

1. Cool the burn down by placing the burned skin under cool (not cold) running water.
2. Cover the burn with a sterile, non-adhesive bandage or clean cloth.
3. Follow up with a doctor to examine the burn and the doctor may prescribe antibiotics and pain medication.
